Sisterhood

Hessian, wool, camera, projector

As black women, working together goes against social norms of how we are expected to be against each other. In this film, two black women come together to create art to protest against this narrative.

Choosing not to be seen throughout the majority of the performance, we represent and acknowledge the way black women take a background role in society. We have to work that much harder to get the acknowledgement we deserve in order for us to break through the set narrative. Through the use of hessian, we pay tribute to the slaves who were forced to wear it, and in stitching into it we take back the power by creating an empowering artwork to celebrate the black woman.
